In a little red cabin in front of the castle of Wenngarn, we’ve found the distillery behind ‘First Gin From First Town’. The distillery is situated just outside Sweden’s first city Sigtuna a little north of Stockholm, hence the eloquent gin name.
During the nineteenth century the little red cabin was used as a distillery, and contrastingly Wenngarn Castle located less than 100m away in the period between 1916–1997 served as an institution for the rehabilitation of people suffering from alcoholism. The perfect way closing this paradoxical ring must be to make ‘First Gin From First Town’ in the historical red cabin in this alcoholically epicenter of Sigtuna.
The gin is a handcrafted organic London Dry Gin perfectly loaded with juniper. The balance of the gin is elegantly obtained by adding some of our favorite gin botanicals; apple and rosemary.
Even though, the crisply sparkling The London Essence organic Indian tonic goes one step further than the traditional citrus profile by not only incorporating lemon peel extract, but also notes of aromatic calamansi, cold pressed lime oil and a subtle hint of chinotto – then it’s actually complimenting the citrus note from this classic First Gin excellent, and still leaving room for the gin to be the main character of the GT. The GT is simply garnished with a slice of a green apple and some rosemary.
Thanks First Distillery Sigtuna for the cocktails servings, and not at least the chat about your distillery and gins at Copenhagen Gin Festival 2021. Looking forward to hopefully soon redeem the invitation to visit your little red cabin, and the properly the smallest distillery in Sweden.
